Summary

Mayo Clinic's cardiovascular AI group developed a deep neural network that detects obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) directly from 12-lead ECG results. The study analysed ECGs from 11,299 patients at Mayo Clinic who had undergone simultaneous sleep evaluations, of whom 7,000+ had confirmed OSA. The model achieves AUROC ~0.87, and importantly demonstrates superior detection specifically in women — a population that is historically underdiagnosed for OSA due to different symptom presentation.
