Single-channel PPG → Conformer → ABP waveform → SBP/DBP. Validated on MIMIC-BP (BHS grade A and AAMI met; numbers not in abstract), then applied to 80 PPG signals from the authors' chest-worn red/IR wearable as preliminary feasibility.

Abstract

This letter presents a Conformer-based framework for reconstructing arterial blood pressure (ABP) waveforms from photoplethysmography (PPG) signals, enabling cuffless estimation of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). The framework takes a single-channel PPG signal as input and uses a Conformer model that integrates convolutional structures with self-attention mechanisms to reconstruct ABP waveform, from which SBP and DBP are derived. The framework was validated using the public MIMIC-BP dataset, the evaluation result meet both the British hypertension society Grade A and the association for the advancement of medical instrumentation standards. We further apply the validated Conformer-based framework to process 80 PPG signals acquired by our self-developed wearable sensing system to estimate BP values. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves very high accuracy, providing preliminary feasibility evidence that PPG-to-ABP waveform reconstruction can be applied to chest-acquired wearable red/IR PPG signals for cuffless BP estimation.
