Effect of Photoplethysmogram Artifacts on Uncertainty in Atrial Fibrillation Detection

Summary

Atrial fibrillation detection from wrist PPG is well known to be artifact-sensitive, but this paper argues that the effect of specific artifact types on detector uncertainty remains poorly characterized. The authors build a controlled experiment to quantify it. Two detector families are compared: one consuming 25-second raw PPG waveforms directly, and one consuming engineered AF-related rhythm-irregularity features.
