• Rethinking PPG-based Sleep Staging: Datasets, Metrics, and Benchmarks

  This paper revisits sleep staging from wearable PPG, an alternative to lab polysomnography. The authors use a hidden semi-Markov model to expand 30-second epoch labels into second-level labels. Training with those finer labels on MESA improved standard four-class staging by 3.7 to 5.7 accuracy points across four different model types.
