This Google study built a deep learning risk score that predicts 10-year major cardiovascular events from fingertip PPG plus age, sex and smoking status, aimed at low-resource settings. Trained on 141,509 UK Biobank participants and tested on 54,856 others, its C-statistic of 71.1% was non-inferior to an office-based WHO-style score that needs blood pressure, height and weight (70.9%). Adding its features to that score raised the C-statistic by 1.0%.
