TL;DR

The record holds analysis code and derived results. It tests whether the monitor-derived peripheral perfusion index (PI) exposure can be reproduced from the largest open perioperative waveform DB (VitalDB), along with PI's reported association with postoperative AKI. Contents: 9 numbered Python scripts, 23 derived result files, figures, tables 1–4, README with result-to-file mapping, pinned requirements (Python 3.13).

Abstract

Analysis code and derived result files for the manuscript "Perfusion indices cannot be reproduced from publicly available perioperative waveform data: a reproducibility and usability assessment of VitalDB" (submitted to BMC Anesthesiology).

Background. The peripheral perfusion index (PI) is a monitor-derived plethysmographic measure that has been reported to predict postoperative acute kidney injury. This archive contains the code used to test whether that exposure, and its reported association, can be reproduced from the largest openly released perioperative waveform database (VitalDB).

Contents. scripts/ (9 Python scripts, numbered in execution order); outputs/ (23 derived result files, per case and per window); figures/ (8 files, PNG at 300 dpi plus SVG); tables/ (Table 1-4 as Word documents plus the markdown source); README.md (script inventory, reproduction order, result-to-file mapping); LICENSE (MIT); CITATION.cff; requirements.txt (pinned versions, tested with Python 3.13.14).

Reproduction. Every number reported in the manuscript can be recomputed from the public source data by running the scripts in the order given in section 5 of README.md. Random seeds are fixed and documented: NumPy default_rng seed 2026 (signal-character audit) and Python random seed 42 (PPV pilot); both are arbitrary values retained only for reproducibility.

Source data not included. VitalDB waveforms and numerics are not redistributed here (data-use agreement). Download them from https://vitaldb.net/dataset and set the variable VD at the top of scripts 17, 20 and 21 to your local VitalDB folder. MOVER (https://doi.org/10.1093/jamiaopen/ooad084) is used for structural comparison only and is not required to reproduce any result.

Funding. This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.
